Just half an hour from Vilanculos Airport, Santorini Boutique Hotel is where Greece meets Africa. White-washed villas, domed accents, ocean blues : all with a warm Mozambican heartbeat. We were trasferred from the airport in an open vehicle with a local beer in hand, and we instantly knew we were in for something special.

Walking into Santorini is like stepping into Greece by the sea, but with a wild African soul. The architecture is pristine yet relaxed; the décor strikes that perfect balance of coastal chic and island calm. Our suite overlooked the ocean, where soft light streamed through as we watched fishermen at work and tides transform the colours of the water throughout the day.

Food was fresh… truly ocean to plate! Seafood was abundant, flavours vibrant, and every meal felt more like a celebration than a necessity. What I loved most is how cleverly they position you in different spots for each meal, making dining feel private and intimate. One morning you might enjoy breakfast overlooking the ocean, another you could be poolside, or even indulging in a picnic set up right on the beach. Variety and privacy - what more could you wish for!

One of the most unforgettable days was our day trip to Magaruque Island. White sands that stretched forever, warm water snorkelling, treasure hunting for pansy shells, and humpback dolphins circling our boat - it was pure paradise. Another highlight was a sunset cruise on a traditional Mozambican dhow. We sailed slowly along the coastline, sipping rosé as the sun dipped below the horizon. It was a memory I’ll carry forever. We didn’t have time for horse riding along the beach, but it’s already on my list for when we return someday.

Santorini is the perfect blend of relaxation (spa days and quiet corners) and adventure (day trips, water activities, cultural experiences) that lets you design your own pace. The ocean, the warmth, the simplicity of moving slowly are all things I will treasure from our stay. If you ever have the chance - GO!
